I have been having problems with Windows Updates and after a handful of e-mails Darrell has solved my problem. I still don't understand this but what he suggested seems to have solved my problem. (My computer, a Dell, came with Vista Home Premium preinstalled.)
It seems I was missing a 'Default' folder in C:\Users\ and he picked up on that. After creating that new folder and copying a ntuser.dat file to that location my Update problem sems to have gone away. I still do not understand the connection between 'User\Default' and 'Updates' but now I seem to be 'up to date'. I followed all the instructions from MSKB and Help (right clicking on the 'failed' update) to delete various files in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution re this Update problem but Darrell's fix seems to be the one that worked.
I'll know for sure once a new update appears but I'm sleeping a lot better. I thought I would have to reinstall Vista and all the new drivers but things are looking better. I was not looking forward to that.
Darrell, thanks!
