Try marking the message as read and then deleting it. Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM fjsmjs.com Answer in newsgroup. Don't expect an answer to email.

That probably won't work. At least it didn't for me. You can't mark it as read, any more than you can delete it, because it doesn't exist. If you check the location where the messages are stored, it's not there. But the "database" thinks it is. As people have written here many months ago, who still had the problem, the only way I have seen to fix it is to change your identity name in Windows Mail. Actually, that doesn't fix the real problem; the message still can't be deleted. But at least it does allow you to send new mail. My undeleteable message is in my Outbox. And as it apparently generates an error when trying to send mail (although no message appears), as it will not allow any other messages sent with the same profile/identity to be sent. Changing the name of the identity/profile, by just adding a 1 to the end, let's me send mail. But that's a workaround. And doesn't get rid of the problem. Which has existed for many months, apparently without an answer. This occurred on my new machine, only a week old, with Vista Ultimate. I've also tried the links given to rebuild the database, with no success. So, what's the real answer to clearing them up. It appears to be pretty darn common, and I will certainly give Microsoft credit for getting to information on it just by clicking on a link on the error message. But it would be nice to clear up. Thanks, Mike, that fixed it. It required a lot more manual work afterwards than I had anticipated, but it worked.

I have a message that I am unable to delete. When I click on the message i get a error message that states an Unkown error has occured. It will not let me delete the message from my inbox. When I open the message I get a message that states my computer that is less than 1 month old is low memory or low disk space which is impossible since i have not used it for anything or put any new programs on it. I can send and recieve emails. The message is from Noesnm Kaufman with a subject [SPAM] her cry. It was recieved at 5:51 am on 4-11-07. I have run Macfee Virus scan and it is not reading it as a virus or threat. Any info would be helpful. I tried the search you had discussed and it did not work, or I am not capable of doing it correctly. Thank You. "Mike Burgess" wrote:

So, don't click on the undeletable message. Leave well enough alone. Microsoft will come out with a fix eventually. You can lower your risk of getting more stuck messages by uninstalling McAfee. See oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Gary VanderMolen "Henry" <Henry discussions.microsoft.com>

What's wrong with that? McAfee and Norton are bad for Vista (actually for any version of Windows) and even worse for WinMail, which they are guaranteed to screw up. "metropolitan sewer" wrote in message

You should have only two instances of the file WindowsMail.MSMessageStore. Were the two extra ones in a different location? Gary VanderMolen "D Geneva" <D Geneva discussions.microsoft.com>

Delete only the two associated with the login having the problem. You won't lose anything. Windows Mail will rebuild the Message Store automatically. Gary VanderMolen "D Geneva"

Please check the next thread titled "cannot delete or move message from outbox, I wrote instructions on how to fix this problem (at least it worked for me) The only other thing you have to remember is to also delete the backup data. John "Mary" wrote:

Have you tried marking the message as read and then deleting it? That's what I've been doing and so far it has always worked. Other things: Try repairing the database with WMUtil from oehelp.com There are two copies of WindowsMail.MSMessageStore, One in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail and one in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Backup\New If you delete both of these the database will be rebuilt. However, while no messages should be lost, some may be downloaded again and you may lose some record of which have been read. I recommend that you only do this when they are causing you trouble, like when they are in the Outbox. Otherwise I now just mark them as read and ignore them. Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM fjsmjs.com

This worked just fine so far. I removed the files as stated and Windows Mail automatically downloaded the original e-mails except the ones I couldn't open or delete. Thank you Mike Burgess!!! "Mike Burgess" wrote:

Mike, I followed your instructions and was able to delete the 2 folders, but the items in my deleted file remain, and are still unable to be deleted. Any further advise? Cindy "Mike Burgess" wrote:

Turn your computer on and off a few times (using proper shutdown procedure). Eventually Windows Mail should regenerate your old folders with their messages. Before you do that, look around in the folder tree because WinMail may have placed those inbox messages in a "Restored" folder. Incidentally, I no longer advocate this method of fixing WM, because I believe in the long run you'd be better off switching to the new Windows Live Mail. Gary VanderMolen "mae"

Why you are getting the message is because Wndows mail is having a moment, well that works for me, how to get rid of the messages is easier to answer:- 1. Open Windows Mail 2. Go to the the Deleted items Folder. 3. Click once on any of the e-mails in that folder to highlight it. 4. Right click on the deleted folder Icon on the left of the page. 5. Click on "Empty 'Deleted Items' Folder" 6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 for each e-mail in that folder. Yes this might prove to be a very longwinded process but it did work for me, having done it once I have not had a problem since, (Pats self on the head) Touch wood. Cosmic Rhapsody "Mary" wrote:

This solution didn't work. I was still unable to delete messages. I now have two such messages and my computer is only 1 month old. "Anirudh Kumar" wrote:

1. Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus. If you have Norton or McAfee uninstall them. 2. Use Windows Explorer to delete the messages. Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Do not send mail.
