I have this same problem. I do not want to get into deleting whole files and moving things around. One comment that I read here stated that Microsoft was going to have a 'fix' or release later this month. Is that true? I would be happy to await that release and ignore the message as Steve often notes here if that is the fact. Please advise. Thanks. Pat

No one knows what Microsoft is going to do. They don't tell people ahead of time. You can mark it as read and then go to View | Current View | Hide read messages and you won't see it. steve "Pat O"

From the horse's mouth: "More to come. In the coming weeks, Microsoft will introduce an additional e-mail client option for Windows Live Hotmail with the release of Windows Live Mail beta, a free consumer e-mail client available via download that will be a successor to Outlook Express and Windows Mail on Windows Vista." liveside.net/blogs/main/archive/2007/05/07/windows-live-hotmail-launches-worldwide.aspx Gary VanderMolen "Pat O"

I give up. It has been a constant stream of Windows Mail issues since purchasing the new computer with VISTA. I'll use webmail until Windows gets it right. "Gary VanderMolen" wrote:
| QUOTE | No, system restore does not bring back lost data. If you want a backup of your mail, I suggest you save a copy of the following directory to someplace like Documents: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\. Gary VanderMolen "melly" I have been having this problem for a while now and I've hesitated about deleting the files. If I were to delete the things that Steve has mentioned and I mess something up would I be able to get it back to how it was if I do a system restore? I'm using a gateway computer and I've used the restore on my old computer several times to fix things and I was wondering if I did delete the files if it would get them back if I did it with this new computer. I am not a very happy Vista user I've had more problems out of it than the XP I have on my other computer. "Steve Cochran" wrote: You completely wipe out the all the data in the database when you do this, so unless its very annoying, then just ignore it. steve "Jim" I do had this problem in Vista with a junk mail. Hope this works for everyone else who has a stuck message in the inbox!!! I hold myself unaccountable for any irreversible damage this may cause to anyones machine Use at your own risk! JIm

I used this link (very grateful for this util !) - one helpful hint that I had to work out was to make sure to end the winmail process in the task manager for ALL users running, not just the one I was troubleshooting (there are two on my computer) - otherwise the functions remain greyed out until this is done. I got me one stubborn message. ;-) I d/l the software - installed it - then uninstalled it. At some point the message went "dead" As well as I can remember, it was after I uninstalled the software - I have NO clue how that could relate to the message. Bill "Steve Cochran" Okay, I tried this and it didn't break anything I can tell yet. <G steve "Steve Cochran" We're on new territory here. Try going to Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance and where it says to compact after 100 closings, set that to 1. Then close WinMail and it should prompt to compact and when it does say yes and let it do its thing. Then reopen WinMail and change that value back to 100 and see then if the message is still there and can be deleted. I haven't tried this yet, so I guess I will in a moment. steve "BChat" I have the same situation - shutting off preview pane doesn't help. I am using build 5728. The only thing I can do without getting: "An unknown error has occurred" is to Mark Read/Unread The message is not previewed in the preview pane: "Message could not be displayed Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again." The message is from a reliable source - Perfect Disk, Raxco Software - and was OK for awhile and then became corrupt.

That's a very old message you are quoting. Much has happened since then. Steve Cochran has developed a fix for the stuck Outbox problem. Download, install and run his WMUtil program: oehelp.com/WMUtil Be sure to read and follow the directions on that download page. Should you have future problems with Windows Mail, consider upgrading to the replacement email program being offered by Microsoft: get.live.com/en-us/betas/maildesktop_betas Gary VanderMolen "skdc4fun"

Microsoft has a fix, but they're still testing it, so you have to call and ask. You should not be charged. Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer that is running Windows Vista support.microsoft.com/kb/941090 Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Do not send mail.

Have you tried the new fix just released by Microsoft: support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090 Although it only mentions stuck emails in the outbox, there is some indication that it may work for all stuck emails. Gary VanderMolen "Marcus"
