Thousands of users need a remedy to the KB 931768 faux pax from MS. The MVP's, who abide in these forums, appear to be silent on this issue...other than offering a few dismal side-step suggestions.

What do MVP's have to do with this "issue"?
BTW, I haven't noticed any problems with the update.

Besides... the problem is NOT a Vista issue but more accurately described as an Internet Explorer one since it is occurring on XP as well.

Are you somehow under the impression that they somehow report things back to MS tech support, or fix the problem themselves?
Perhaps you didn't realize that they are simply users, like the rest of us?

There are several people who have had a problem whereby their Internet Explorer has been screwed by an autoupdate of the "fix" but, generally, they have taken the issue to the appropriate forum.... microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general since it is NOT a Vista specific event.
The short term solution is to uninstall the fix.

Hi Mary,
First things first, in French one says "faux pas" not "faux pax". Just a little "tache de beauté", appart from that it is perfect French :-))
Could you please tell me what the problem is with that KB ? I have installed all the updates and haven't come across any problem whatsoever.

Most people who have had a problem reported it in the internetexplorer.general group... it is not a Vista issue, but there is a running thread here too...

What "KB931768 faux pas?" Do you actually have a real problem/question? If so, please describe it, in detail.

The MVP's are all offline because their FRIGGIN' IE7 DIED due to Microsoft's Faulty patch and the MVPs are no longer able to access the Internet because they do not know how to use Firefox.

I applied the update and haven't had a problem. This is not to say that some systems have had a problem with it. The problems associated with that update apply to both Vista and XP, so it's not a Vista specific issue. The better forum for these issues is the internet explorer newsgroup and the windows update newsgroup.

Mary, you seem to have a wrong idea about who the MVPs are. We are just users, like yourself, recognized by MS for helping out in a variety of ways, including in the newsgroups, but in many other ways as well. We are not employees of MS, and most are not associated with them beyond the honorary title. We are not involved in the issuance of or issuing fixes for problems with updates from MS. We just try to help out other users.

Mary Nothing else to say!

Aside from a few bad apples, most MVPs are volunteers helping people out with problems they post here. The MVPs cannot fix any issue that MS has not fixed. They have their hands full as it is with the poor quality of MS products.

1-866-pcsafety is what anyone with an issue with a security patch should call.
Issues with a security patch are a free call.
Let me state that again.
Issues with a security patch are a free call.
I was not impacted by this issue on my Vista machines and unless you have a repro for the MS staff to look at, there's not much that any MVP who doesn't have a sample can do but get in the way.
Many of us were informing Microsoft to ensure they knew of the issue.

Dunno about free... From what I've seen on these groups they've earned it for the help they give and the abuse they take.

What do MVP's have to do with this "issue"?
BTW, I haven't noticed any problems with the update.
"Mary Kaspar" wrote Thousands of users need a remedy to the KB 931768 faux pax from MS. The MVP's, who abide in these forums, appear to be silent on this issue...other than offering a few dismal side-step suggestions.

MVPs do not get money to help in the community newsgroups. In fact there is no requirement to help out here. MVPs are just users, volunteering their time. There are some free "goodies" and benefits from MS if the person wants to use them, but that's up to the person. It certainly is in no way compensation for the time and effort spent.

It should probably also be mentioned that MVP award is recognition for the efforts that the MVP put in during the past year. That is, when I was awarded as an MVP in October of 2006, that award was in recognition of the efforts I made from 1 October 2005 through 30 September 2006.
Accepting the award does not require any efforts between 1 October 2006 and 30 September 2007 - if I wished, I could post nothing during those twelve months. The only (and likely) result of that would be that I would not be awarded again on 1 October 2007.

Not sure where you got that idea, but we certainly get no money from Microsoft. Free goodies mostly consist of hats, tshirts, and the occasional book or software.

Factor in the time MVPs spend posting as well as researching problems. You will find that if compensation was a motivation, most would make far more for their time selling hamburgers at minimum wage.

I should have put a ;-)
I know full well, and appreciate, that the MVP's contributions are virtually pure benevolence and they probably don't get much more out of it than the satisfaction of helping others and the occasional nugget of new info/experience for themselves. (No sarcasm.) Cheers.
