IMHO - it's not as good as Linux, but certainly better than vista at this point.

It means that XP will get security updates until the 2014 date. And no, Vista will not be the last Microsoft operating system. Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "iqon"

You mean there are plans are for Vienna to be the next one but with the lack of success of Vista and the Web 2.0 trend, that's debatable. Did you know that MS is dumping OE and Windows Mail for Windows Mail Live, the new "Hotmail"? See: computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9018858&intsrc=hm_list Alias

Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Hotmail are two separate products. Windows Live Mail is a desktop client, and, of course, Windows Live Hotmail is the web based application. While this is going to be extremely confusing for a lot of users, XP and Vista users, especially Vista users, I applaud Microsoft for dumping Windows Mail- it is just a terrible piece of software... it's why I switched to Thunderbird for reading newsgroups. Microsoft will also be getting rid of graphical ads in Windows Live Mail. I don't know if that also means those "relevant" links users get in the search pan, we'll see. One of my biggest complaints about Hotmail was the inability to retrieve those emails from Outlook, unless you paid for it. Now, there will be a new Outlook Connector that will allow that again. I think that's a good thing Microsoft has done. User confusion aside, I believe Microsoft has done the right thing. Admitting OE was getting outdated and providing XP users with a new email client. Of course, I don't think OE users will be forced to use Windows Live Mail if they don't want to. Also, basically admitting WinMail was flawed, needs to be replaced, and doing so without dragging it out, is something Microsoft doesn't often do. Which is why, IMO, they deserve some credit for this. Sure, it's gotten confusing and Microsoft should have never put WinMail into Vista in the first place. In the end, this consolidation makes the most sense. -Michael

No... Lang's definition of a troll is someone who puts up hundreds of posts in this NG about Linux but only posts, like, 2 or 3 posts in the ubuntu ng in the same span of time. Troll. Lang

The people in the Unbuntu ng already know about Ubuntu. The good people who are frustrated with Vista don't. I am providing information they need, not trolling. Just yesterday someone came into my office and asked me what was on my Ubuntu machine. I burned a CD for them and they happily went home to install it. Alias

Numbers mean nothing. I rarely need help with Ubuntu and there are far more qualified people in the Ubuntu group to help the newbies than I. You don't, of course, know how many posts I read and obviously haven't been a part of my IRC discussions with qualified Ubuntu users. Now be a good little boy and go defrag your C drive, update your anti virus and anti malware apps and don't forget to empty your temp files. Btw, these Windows activities are not done in Linux. Alias

Well... I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this. As to Linux as a desktop system. Yeah, it's great until one has to delve deeper than the UI. Then... it's not so user friendly. Anyone that denies that is... well... wrong, imho. And understand... I'm not dissin' any flavor of nix... you like it, have at it. But don't think your "...be a good little boy..." crack proves otherwise. Lang
