Hi again, Having finally got Windows Mail working I now have a problem of usability that I can't sort out. I have many dozens of Mail Folders, many with sub-folders to two or three levels. In Outlook Express, I maintained them all closed so that when OE opened, I saw just the top level folders, about thirty five of them, so they almost filled the height of the screen. My mail activity tends to be concentrated in one set of folder topics for a few days or weks then moves to othere areas - so I will open the sub-level folders only when i need to file messages into them or check on an earlier message in one of them - then I close the lower level folder(s) again. In Windows Mail - ALL the folders and sub-folders are opened each time I come in - even if I have closed them all up before exiting. Te means that i have to scroll down pages full of folder names to find the one i need to deal with - it's totally impractical. There must surely be a way of getting WM to respect the way the folders were last left and returning with that setting, as O.E. did, but i can't find it. Would appreciate advice on this. Best regards Ron in France

You might try Tools | Options | General and uncheck the automatically expand folders with unread messages. I don't know if that will fix it or not.

Steve - you're great - many thanks - that's fixed it. I was misled by the French version of the text - which doesn't talk of "expanding" but "showing" . But it works as you indicate - that's a great relief! Best regards Ron in France
