Close Windows Mail. Navigate to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft and move the Windows Mail folder to your Documents folder. Open Windows Mail and import your messages from Local Folders in the moved store. Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM fjsmjs.com "Tracy"

I've just updated my WMUtil program to include a "Clear Outbox" button that might fix the problem for you. See oehelp.com/WMUtil/ Please post back if it works. steve "Tracy"

Download the zip file where it says Download here (the link is oehelp.com/WMUtil/WMUtil.zip). Then extract both files to a blank directory or just the Desktop. Then if you have a stuck message in the Outbox, then click on the Clear Outbox and see what happens. It will take some time, so just wait. If the buttons are not clickable, then that means WinMail is running. Close it and wait a few seconds. If they still aren't clickable, then do a CTRL-SHIFT-ESC and look at the running processes and find WinMail.exe and click on it and then click on the End process button. Then the buttons should become clickable. steve "Tracy"

I hit the "clear outbox" key on your utility. How long should that process take? It's been over 15 min. Could it be stuck? "Steve Cochran" wrote:

The zip file has two files in it. Extract both of them to the desktop or at least to the same directory. Then click on the exe to run the program. It will take some time if you have lots of messages, but it should give a messagebox when its finished. steve "ihod"

No. Create a directory on the desktop. Copy the dll and the exe to that directory. Open that directory and click on the exe and then see if it works. steve "ihod"

When you download the file, be sure to choose Save rather than Run. After it finishes downloading choose Run, then Extract. Then it will show the extracted folder with two files in it. Run WMUtil.exe Gary VanderMolen "frustrated"

At this point I would not go to extremes for an undeletable message that is in any folder but the Outbox. The Outbox problem can prevent all sending, which makes the email program practically worthless. Stuck messages in other folders can be ignored. As always, you should take measures to prevent additional stuck messages by taking the antivirus advice that has been offered here numerous times. I understand not going to extreme's, however I use my email address with my jobI NEED it to work properly. This is a brand new lap top. McAfee is gone off of it. ONE message is stuck. One message that will not delete no matter what I attempt to do. I'm very discouraged and very unhappy with Vista, and like others on here, I wish I had XP back, because the glitches are a constant with this. I'm at my wits end over here "Gary VanderMolen" wrote:

You didn't say which folder the stuck message is in. If you are unhappy with Windows Mail (and you have good cause to be), you should switch to a different email program. Gary VanderMolen "raecy"

After working with this issue for several months, I have to say there is strong circumstantial evidence that Windows Mail has a problem with some antivirus programs. McAfee and Norton antivirus seem to be the worst in this regard. Gary VanderMolen "Danny"

One swallow doesn't make a summer but... I replaced the trial version of McAfee (that came pre-installed on my Dell PC) with Norton's offering (free for the duration of my BT broadband contract) and have swerved these mail problems. Fate... consider yourself tempted.

Steve, I downloaded your WMUtil program, unzipped both into the save directory and tried to run the .exe without success. I put them both in a folder on my desktop just in case your code was specific to a desktop application. Still no success. I get the following message when I run the program: "Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click continue the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Unable to load DLL 'SCxout.DLL': The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail. (Exception from HRESULT: 0X800736B1)." I appreciate your trying to help resolve this problem with Windows Mail. I hope this information helps. I need help on this one myself. Robert "Steve Cochran" wrote:

There is a newer version. It still may be buggy, but that error is fixed. oehelp.com/WMUtil/ Delete the old exe and dll first. steve "Robert Sparks"
| QUOTE | Steve, I downloaded your WMUtil program, unzipped both into the save directory and tried to run the .exe without success. For a free antivirus program I'd recommend Avast: avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html Among the ones you pay for, NOD32 and Kaspersky always get high ratings. Gary VanderMolen "Danny"

In most cases your User Profile is located under C:\User\UserName where UserName is your Windows user login name. Gary VanderMolen "Kika"

| QUOTE | | Referring eveyone to Thunderbird is not much help when we need the problem fixed. I don't like the sarcasm form Gary VanderMolen just as much as you don't like my post. We all want answers and not from a person who keeps trying to send eveyone to Thunderbird. It really isn't your business anyway because I didn't ask you. |
Denise, Exactly WHAT is YOUR problem. We may actually be able to help. A good first step would be to uninstall anything from Norton or McAfee. And Thunderbird does have less problems than Windows Mail. Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM fjsmjs.com

I have had the unknown error occured since I bought this lap top with Vista on it. I think it is a problem with the program. I get emails that I try to delete that state unknown error. They are still sitting in my inbox as we dont know what to do with them. I now have 56 emails in my deleted folder that I can't move out because they all state unknown error if I try to delete them. We are at the point to delete Vista altogether and download another version of Microsoft. This is way too frustrating and too time consuming, Welcome to America.....or wait maybe it is India..... which I share with you and legions of others that "can't send emails or delete some in the outbox" but Microsoft Support suggested to me that I start a new USER ACCOUNT (under a different identity but still using the same username and password in the set-up). I have complied (reluctantly) with their suggestion and am now happily receiving and SENDING and deleting messages (and hoping MS will, one day, have a permanent solution for us loyal Vista users). No need to dump Vista just because you are disappointed with the freebie email program that comes with it. Try an alternate email program, such as: mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/ Gary VanderMolen "Deena"
