I thought I had the same problem, but what was happening was that if you have auto-update on, it will shut down instead of hibernate because of the updates. Change the auto update setting to notify or turn it off and the hibernate (actually called sleep now) should work without you getting suprised like that. It happens so often because there are so many updates always coming out. "Antonio Amengual" wrote:

Hi, I have a similar problem: My computer often doesn't shut down properly, when I want to switch it off, the system shuts down but the computer itself keeps running. Here is the error message I have been getting: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1031 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 9f BCP1: 00000003 BCP2: 84C3B5B8 BCP3: 868D2030 BCP4: 87F6F428 OS Version: 6_0_6000 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 256_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini050707- 01.dmp C:\Users\Torsten\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-2731296-0.sysdata.xml C:\Users\Torsten\AppData\Local\Temp\WEREB39.tmp.version.txt Any ideas? Thanks, Torsten "Victor" wrote:

I've found that this is usual behavior if you don't immediately use the computer after waking it. I found that as long as I do a task right away it will not resume hibernating. Check your mail before getting the cup of coffee. "Antonio Amengual" wrote:

Hi Antonio, I don't think that the updates are the issue in my situation because my machine doesn't switch off when I select the "switch off" command. But I will try now is put my computer into sleep mode instead of shutting it down completely. Maybe this is the better option after all. What do you think? Regards and many thanks, Torsten

I've been trying to find discussion about my particular problem with an unexpected shutdown. I lock my pc down in the evening and when I come back to it the following afternoon I have to restart the computer instead of just being able to just start where I left off, I then get a message that says "windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down. do you want windows to check for a solution. I click on that button and nothing happens. Any ideas? Linda "Antonio Amengual" wrote:

When you say "Lock my PC" are you using Control-Alt-Delete to lock it ? Is it a desktop or notebook ? Which Power Saving mode is it set to use? Normally, the PC should enter one of several kinds of "Sleep States" after the inactivity time runs down. Does it go to Sleep or Hibernate ? To determine what triggered the unexpected shut down you may need to check the System Event log for errors. Really just too many variables to give you a focused answer. "Linda"
