Hi all, Last night I had a power failure and when I turned on my computer this morning I had some hard drive problems. It wouldn't recognize my profile, the event log said that I didn't have access to my ntuser.dat file. I ended up copying my profile, deleting it and copying it back. At about that time I noticed that my aero theme was gone. I tried all the tricks I found by searching the beta boards, but the Aero theme is no where to be found along with the aero color scheme. I have a 3.8 rating and it was there before. Any ideas how to get it back? thanks!

Check to see if the Desktop Window Manager Session Manager service is running. I had a similar problem a few days after I got a new Vista PC. I am not sure how it happened, but somehow this service was changed from Automatic to Manual. Once I started it up, The Aero theme returned. "snowburnt"

It's running but it isn't showing up still. I was able to find the style file, and it looks fine but won't show up under the color settings still. On May 6, 5:46 pm, "Disp350" wrote:

try restarting the service. Task Manager - Services - click on Services box in lower right. in the window that opens, select the service and click on Restart on the left.

tried it, still no go. Also tried the registry hacks and the command line restarts to no effect. One other thing: I think I was Remote Desktop-ed into my computer before it got restarted last...not sure if that had anything to do with it... On May 6, 6:21 pm, "Dave" wrote:

Well... not for nothing, but... sounds like you had enough power issues to give -any- OS fits... Lang

yeah, power and harddrive issues...I'm not blaming vista, I still think it's a great OS...I'd just like it that much more if it let me use Aero again.
