Hi Group
Old desktop has XP, new laptop has Vista. The settings transfer wiz from XP produces a .DAT file which Vista doesn't open/process automatically. Similarly Vista's "easy transfer" doesn't communicate with Xp. How do I get my settings across to the new laptop?
TIA
Ron

Vista's WET is made to transfer settings from XP to Vista, so what do you mean 'doesn't communicate'

Took the WET software to the old PC using a flash drive - then when I chose 'my files and settings only ' to transfer, a dialogue box came up saying "there was an error scanning the data on your system, Windows East Transfer will now be cancelled" (with Cancelled spelt wrongly, by the way!). No option but to exit WET. ????

:-) I had no luck with WET either. Many have reported problems. I had it run for about 15 minutes each time, then the progress bar would stop and nothing would happen no matter how long I waited. I just gave up and spent my time doing my settings over. Far less frustrating.

WET will restore files only from a fast wiz file - you will have to browse to the location of the .dat file - then change the file type it is looking for - you should see .dat file in the drop down list -
WET does run on XP -
