I am running IE7 on a compaq presario c504ea - running on Vista Home Premium. If I'm on internet for a long period of time, and browsing chatrooms, etc I find that it gets to a point where I cannot open profiles or other chat windows. This quickly gets worse - until I cannot open any other IE windows and eventually have to reboot to clear the problem! It does the same with MSN messenger if I'm using it concurrently with chat sites. It may point towards a problem with IE7, as I run IE6 on a WindowsXP PC and have no similar problems.
Any help would be appreciated.

Memory is fragmented. I noticed that too. I use Firefox and no problems.

Try deleting the Temporary Internet Files the next time this happens (IE7 > Tools > Delete Browsing History > Delete Files...).
