I have Vista Premium on my HP laptop. If I download or create a zip file, and I go to move it or delete it, windows explorer shuts down then comes back up. As long as my mouse doesn't get near it it's fine, but if I merely hover the mouse over the file, either in a folder or on the desktop whammo...explorer shuts down and comes back up. The only way I can delete a zip file is to create a folder, quickly drag the file into it, then delete the folder as a whole. Is there anything I can do?

Do you use a 3rd party program for zip files? Specifically, one that may have added a context menu item for zip files? "JeffroDoe"

I have zip genius installed since I assumed that Vista didn't come with a zip program. It occurs on files I've downloaded and on those I've created. Do u think it's possible that its mere presence might be causing the issue? If that's the case, how do you unzip files? Do I have to reinstall a zip program each time I need to process one? Vista has a built-in zip file extractor. If you right-click a zip file, you can choose Extract All. Double-clicking a zip file will show the contents (with an Extract All Files button on the toolbar). Try uninstalling Zip Genius, to see if that stops Explorer from crashing. That program may have a shell extension that's not working too well. "JeffroDoe"

Addendum: Also, you can create a new zip file by right-clicking an empty spot on your desktop, or within a folder, and choosing New > Compressed (zipped) Folder, and then drag items into it. That being said, there are several 3rd party zip programs that will perhaps work better with Vista, if you want additional features, etc., such as 7-Zip (which has a configurable context menu with several options, or the option to not use its context menu at all).
