I inadvertently posted this in the wrong forum previously.
I am dual booting with XP so no chance of keeping system restore. I am still mainly using XP. So after not having used Vista for 3 weeks I booted into Vista and have lost my taskbar and side bar with my widgets. How do I get them back. It happened the last time as well and used Acronis backup to get back my settings. There has to be an easier way. Any help please?? |

In any dual boot scenario with XP and Vista, you must set the system so that neither operating system can detect the other operating system. This solves a lot of problems, including losing system restore points. See the following website for detailed instructions on how to accomplish this. Thanks for the reply. I am reluctant to spend any more money after purchasing Vista ultimate. This still doesnt address the issue of the lost taskbar and sidebar widgets "Ronnie Vernon MVP"

If you followed the previous advice, you would still have system restore available in Vista to fix the missing Taskbar and Sidebar problems. There are simply too many things that can happen when you have a dual boot setup where 2 or more operating systems can see each other and interact.
