Hello my question is that despite the fact i use vista ultimate(64 bit version/administrator) at home and have system protection turned on my computer refuses to make shadow copies. I have 52 gigs left on my 140 gig hard drive. This makes no sense. I even have restore points up to last week. Yet no file has a shadow copy, be it a word doc or jpeg. I even changed and saved over files on purpose to try and get a shadow copy. Any help would be good because i am absolutely stumped.

Hi aethorpe
I'd first try to solve this by running SFC. Type cmd in search box above Start Button>rt. click cmd when pops up>run as admin>at prompt type sfc /scannow.
One of the best sources for info on VSS is Jill Zoeller's blog where she and her team have several good articles on it. That's here:
blogs.technet.com/filecab/
Either Search VSS or click on the links she has on the right pane.
Good luck,
CH

I should have added that if mine didn't work with adequate space and you have a ton, and SFC didn't fix it, if you have a DVD I'd pop it in and try to run a Startup Repair.
