I got the following errors after restarting Vista after adding additional memory (should not be related)
[Content] Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Your Windows Mail mailbox data is currently being used by another program, such as a virus scanner. Close the program or wait for it to complete its operation, then open Windows Mail again. (0x800C0155, 2) - Windows Mail - Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized.

I tried the following running my virus scan, shuting down my virus scan program restarting computer but same errors occurs Windows Mail is the default mail server

Look at Event Viewer (Windows Application) and see if there are ESENT errors that indicate access denied. If so, then there are permission problems on the message store directory. Otherwise you probably need to move all the contents of the message store to another directory and then WinMail will start fresh.

Thanks, moving message store solved the problem. I could not find the event viewer program at microsoft.com but I will look at other sites.

From a recent post by Steve Cochran: "The only solution so far is to wipe out the database. So go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Advanced | Store Folder to find the message store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail directory to another directory. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh with nothing in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they work correctly then you can use File | Import | Messages and choose WinMail format and point to the directory to which you moved the files."

I found my "message store" at 'C:\Users\"my user name"\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\WindowsMail.MSMessageStore
\AppData\ is a hidden folder . You need to unhide all the files in your user directory by going to the user folder and unhiding in the folder 'properties' options.
