I just got this new Vista 2 days ago. I have an email address that I use for work. I use my email through Microsoft Email and used Outlook Express before I got this new computer. Unfortunately this ISP has been having major problems and I'm not getting my email.
So I set up a NEW email account through the local cable company where I have our high speed through. With outlook I was able to add this as a new account and then could switch identities and keep using Outlook. My original email is a different ISP. Yesterday I did the same thing with Microsoft Mail. Added this cable email as a new account. I talked to the cable tech guy yesterday to make sure everything was set up correctly, which is it. The problem is, whenever I try to switch identities to use this cable email it either asks for me to login and won't accept it (even though it is correct) or the send/receive box pops up and says it's executing but gets stuck and I'll get the message saying no response do you want it to check in 60 seconds. I don't know what's wrong or how to fix it. The cable tech guy said that everything is set up correct and that the problem is because of Vista and he can't help me. Now I don't know what to do. If I made any sense at all, can anyone help me? |

Yes, you are confused. :-) There is no such thing as Microsoft Mail. You probably mean Windows Mail. You say "The problem is, whenever I try to switch identities..." Windows Mail does not have an identity switching feature, so it is not clear just what you are doing. Windows Mail does not work well with several antivirus programs. Read oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 , then, as a test, uninstall your antivirus program, reboot and try Windows Mail again. There is a File | Switch Identities menu item, but it is leftover from OE (they did a lousy programming job) and doesn't work. see Windows Vista Help What happened to e‑mail identities windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/98c039d9-78d1-41c7-8ece-b505780d68701033.mspx All of your mail accounts are under a single identity now. I have a program that puts them back if you find it useful to have them: oehelp.com/WMIDs/ steve "confused vista user" <confused vista user discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message
