Hi. Our church is running Vista Home Premium on new Gateway dual-core laptop with 1 GB. Was running fine until a week ago. At that time there was power failure in the building- laptop was plugged in and fully charged, so I do not know if power is issue or not. After the power failure, we also installed a new switch and new router. All other machines on the In any case, now some downloads crawl. Email comes in at a few bytes/sec about an hour/per KB, antivirus updates will not download at all. IE otherwise behaves normally. Speedtests show same upload/download speeds as before. All other networking issues are unaffected. We can access email via webmail with no difficulty or delay, but cannot download to Outlook. Gateway has suggested reinstalling Vista, but I thought I'd ask you folks first, thinking there may be permissions that were somehow changed and can be corrected. Thanks in advance. Joe

Any way you can connect this laptop directly to the Internet. This would tell you if the new hardware is the problem. Also I've seen anti virus programs set to scan incoming e-mail. This can cause slow downloads also. gls858 |

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I did trying disabling the antivirus software. No effect. And, that same antivirus (AVG) has been running successfully for some time, and is still running correctly on other machines on the same network. As to connecting directly to the internet, I can try that. However, all other internet testing (speedtests, etc) are fine already with the present connection. Thanks, Joe "gls858" wrote:
