OK I have two systems at home, 1 of which I am going to upgrade to Vista Home Premium. I just wanted to get a take on which system would be better to upgrade, and your thoughts why.
System 1 is an Acer Veriton 6800. Pentium 4 3.0 HT. 2 gigs ram, Sapphire ATI x1800GTO video card PCIE, Audigy 2 sound card, a 200 gig and 85 gig SATA drive, Samsung DL DVD-R/W +R/W drive.
The other is a home built system, Asus K8V Deluxe mobo running an original 1st gen AMD Athlon 64 3200+. 1.5 gigs ram, ATI Radeon 9800 pro AGP, a 200 and 300 gig ATA 133 hard drive, ATI TV Wonder PCI, Sony DVD burner.
My dilema is this, the Acer has more memory and SATA hard drive, as well as a better video card. The ASUS is a 64 bit processor with a decent yet slightly lesser video card and RAM. Would the 64 bit processor outweigh the benefits of the Acer ram numbers and faster hard drives?
Any suggetions are appreciated. This is probably a project for next weekend.

Personally I think both should and would run Vista quite well...Since there is such a dilemma with 64 bit drivers I would opt to install the 32 bit version of Vista premium therefore once again it does not matter which system you use...In the future if you wish to run the 64bit version of premium (available from Microsoft now for 10$) than I would go with the AMD 3200+...I ran this particular processor when I first install Vista and had no problems whatsoever ( sold it and am now running core2 duo Intel )...Is the ram the same ?? as in are both systems ddr or is one ddr2 ?? If they are both the same than you could move ram from one to the other for more performance...As for your question of speed I would put that Intel ahead of the AMD in a heartbeat...Would you post what socket it is ?? For instance if it is socket 775 than you would be able to go faster with a dual core Intel processor on the same board,,Mind you depending on the socket of the AMD you could upgrade that as well............Bottom line go with the ACER you have more to start with just make sure all drivers you need are readily available.......Have a great day !! Hey thanks for the reply!! OK to answer a few of the questions. The memory in the 2 systems is not the same, the Acer is DDR2 PC4100, the Asus is DDR PC3200. The P4 is in a socket 775, but there is no bios available for it from Acer, so I dont think I can really do a processor swap in this system. The Asus system is a socket 754, the very first A64 socket, so that essentially is not worth upgrading as well.

Go with the Acer...It will be the better system "Ray"
