I've just started experimenting with Vista Home Prem 32-bit, and it seems that my Recycle Bin has disappeared off my desktop. I'm running with the old Win2000-style icons on desktop, and I've tried reverting to the new Start menu and back, but no Recycle Bin appears. In WinXP, I can use TweakUI to bring back the odd icon that disappears from the desktop. How would I do this in Vista?
Thx and Regards, Margaret |

Right-click on the Desktop, select Personalize and then Change Desktop Icons from the left sidebar. Re-check Recycle Bin. If you can't get there that way because of your Win2000-style, just type Personalize in the Search bar at the bottom of the Start menu. You probably deleted the Recycle Bin accidently. For some reason, there's a Delete option when you right-click on the Recycle Bin (easily confused with the proper Empty Recycle Bin option since they're both "deletion" activities). "Margaret"

Right-click on the Desktop, click Personalize, and in the left pane, click Change desktop icons. In the Desktop Icon Settings dialog, enable the Recycle Bin checkbox. Click OK. See also:

Thanks to David and Ramesh. I didn't see how I could possibly have deleted the Recycle Bin w/o knowing it, but I didn't realize it was so easy to do in Vista. I'll bet that's exactly what happened. Anyway, it's back. So thx very much for your help! :-) Margaret |

The problem is not just clicking the "delete" option. My recycle bin sometimes disappears when I click the "empty" option. It is easy to get the recycle bin back, but this is frustrating. The problem is very prevalent. It obviously is a bug in Vista.
