I can receive, but not send. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'test', Account: 'ccr mail', Server: 'smtp.1and1.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
If I change the server to 587 as suggested by the 1and1 website, I get the following: Your SMTP server has not responded in 60 seconds would you like to wait?

Port 25 will not work because your ISP is blocking it. Port 587 is probably timing out because you have your antivirus configured to scan email. Your web host 1and1.com has some good troubleshooting suggestions: faq.1and1.com/e_mail/troubleshooting/2.html
