Can't get Preview Pane to work

Vista users may be aware that within Explorer, if you select Organise

should happen!
However, even though I have Office 2003 installed (including Word and Excel), when I select either of those types of documents the preview pane displays the message "No preview available". Any ideas why this might be? This is an otherwise excellent feature.
