Hi - I upgraded to Vista yesterday and since this time have found that it takes 5 - 15 seconds to access even a simple web page such as google. The more complex ones take even longer. I previously had XP Pro and this was immediate. The detials of my system are dual processor 2.66, 511mb memory, I rate at 2.9 on the windows experince rating. I run trend micro as security )don't know if this is important)...I know that my memory is low but at this stage I only want to access the internet. Does anybody know of either a link I can follow that relates to this or any suggestions on what I can do? Many thanks for anybody who takes the time to read this.

One thing may be browser settings. Using Vista - IE7 may have it's Phishing detection/filter enabled. You may want to check and see if it's enabled. Also, since this was an upgrade you'll want to get the latest drivers for your hardware. Especially important in your case is the Network Interface Card (NIC). Vendor supplied drivers usually have greater control/functionality than drivers included with Vista. To check the "Phishing" settings: Open IE, Click Tools, Internet Options, Advanced (TAB) -scroll down to the Security Category and you'll find Phishing about 10 entries down the list "vistaconfused"

ok vistaconfused - try this.
open a command prompt as a admin user type in the following netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled ensure you dont get errors this will turn off the autotuning which a lot of web servers arent all that fond of Download the duel processor version of Multimeter v1.20 from the vista gadgets site and install it. This will tell you how hard your processors are running and the amount of RAM your chewing up. Vista is a memory hungry OS and 512 will just do. Go and get a memory upgrade or if you cant do that go get a decent USB stick and plug it in and use the Virtual memory option that pops up (cant remember the exact name at the moment) The WEI index of 2.9 is a little concerning but I assume its the graphics card. Which component is the lowest thats giving you the 2.9 ? Vista drivers are fine for most things and I dont think are the problem in your case, so leave them alone. rapierau |

Vista with 512MB doesn't sound like fun. I recommend 2GB+ to get the best out of Vista. |
